Heart Chakra

The heart chakra forms our deepest connections to affection, tenderness, and endearment. Being your fourth chakra, this is a good time to reflect on the first three chakras; root, sacral, and solar plexus! The chakra connects the lower and upper chakras, acting as a bridge between your more grounding actions and higher aspirations. The chakra allows you to feel a connection, unconditional love, compassion, and respect. At our heart, it brings us wholeness and recognizes love as the ultimate healing force. The energy center is commonly associated with the color green and the element air, and you can find it at the center of your chest!

The heart chakra in balance is a truly beautiful energy to observe between the mind, body, and spirit. Your deepest bonds with other beings are rooted through the heart chakra, including both romantic and platonic relationships. The energy center gives you the ability to show love not only to yourself but to other people. Your compassion is centered here, enabling you to be empathetic and understanding. The chakra allows you to cultivate respect for yourself and others’ ideas, thoughts, and boundaries. Let's not forget about forgiveness! The healing center asks you to let go of past experiences and forgive others.

The heart space is where we hold grief and sadness. And the chakra that represents relationships and balance (as it sits between the lower and upper chakras!)

When the heart chakra is imbalanced, you may experience emotional and physical distress. With an underactive heart chakra, you may experience the inability to forgive others or move on from past experiences. You may be lacking empathy and avoiding feelings of love and compassion. Literally and figuratively a closed heart. With an overactive heart chakra, your center is receiving too much energy instead of too little. Your relationships tend to lack discernment and you overexert yourself in your personal life. This experience may present itself as codependency, a lost sense of personal boundaries, and toxic relationships. Thankfully, you can balance the heart chakra and restore the natural energy flow. Practicing heart chakra balancing can be a lovely daily activity to explore.

Ways to balance your heart chakra:

  • Get outside: Remember the heart chakra’s element is air, so spend time breathing in the fresh air.

  • Volunteer: Volunteering helps connect you to the compassionate and empathetic energy of the heart chakra.

  • Yoga: Camel pose, Cobra, pose, and Fish pose, all connect to your heart chakra.

  • Heart Chakra Affirmations: Repeat positive affirmations such as “I am open to love,” and “I love and accept myself”.

  • Crystal Healing: The heart chakra is highly influenced by rose quartz. Meditate with the crystal, carry it with you, or wear rose quartz jewelry.

  • Aromatherapy: Enjoy smells like Geranium, Lime, and Spearmint, and Rose.
